With RapidShare Download Accelerator, you can add all the files you'd like to download, and it will do all the annoying work for you. Now you can just sit back and watch your files download without paying.

Arrange folders according to their size in Windows

When you select “Details” view in Windows Explorer(inside My Computer) it will show you everything about the folders and files the only thing it will not show you  is the size of your folders. It also does not allow you to arrange your folders according to their size. I often have to find which folder is taking most of my disk space and I have to go to properties of each and every folder to find out the culprit.
Today I finally found out the solution to this problem. Folder size for Windows Explorer is an open source project which will help you to see the folder size inside Windows Explorer. See this screen shot.

How to use it??
  1. First, make sure you’re running Windows 2000 or XP. Sorry, it doesn’t work in Vista.
  2. Download the installer x32-bit or x64-bit
  3. Run the downloaded file to start the install wizard. It has boring template text, so just keep clicking Next. Typical and Complete installs do the same thing, Custom lets you change where it gets installed.
  4. Now the Folder Size column is available to Explorer, but Explorer isn’t displaying it yet. Open an Explorer window in Details view.
  5. Right click on the column headers to see a list of columns you can add. Choose Folder Size.
  6. Now we can replace the existing Size column with the new Folder Size column. Right click on the column headers and uncheck the Size column. Drag the Folder Size column header to where Size used to be.
  7. Make this the default view for all folders. Go to Folder Options from the Tools menu. In the View tab, click Apply to All Folders.
If you are running an old system you may feel like you computer has become little slower then usual. At any point of time you can uninstall it from Add/Remove programs.

Speed up Acrobat reader (almost like notepad)

1. Go to the installation folder of acrobat reader (C:\program files\adobe\acrobat\reader\.. whatever)
2. Move all the files and folders from the "plugins" directory to the "Optional" directory.
(I repeat.. cut and paste the files NOT copy & paste)
Also make sure that acrobat reader is not open else it will lock the files and not allow you to move the files).
Now your acrobat reader will load very fast and almost as good as notepad..

Speed up your Internet connection upto 20%

Microsoft reserves 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes like Windows Updates and interrogating your PC. You can get it back,
Click Start then Run and type "gpedit.msc" without quotes. This opens the group policy editor. Then go to Local Computer Policy then Computer Configuration then Administrative Templates then Network then QOS Packet Scheduler and then to Limit Reservable Bandwidth.
Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab i.e."By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."
So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%. It works on Win 2000 as well.

How to track invisible user's in Yahoo messenger

Sometimes some of your friends who appear offline in yahoo messenger may not be actually offline, they may in the 'Invisible' mode. This maybe if they are trying to ignore you or are too busy to talk to anyone. There is this small trick that you can use to find out what the truth is.Firstly open your yahoo messenger main window and double click on the name of the person whom you want to check. The chat window will open obviously. Click IMVironment button, select See all IMVironments, select Yahoo! Tools or Interactive Fun, and click on Doodle. After loading the Doodle imvironment there can be two possibilities:
1. If the user is offline Doodle are will show this "waiting for your friend to load Doodle" continuously. See in the picture below,

2. If the user is online (but in invisible mode), after few seconds (it can take up to one minute, depending on your connection speed), you should get a blank page like in the picture below which indicates that the user is online.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM)

Hey Guy's, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a surprisingly effective freeware antimalware tool. Whether you know it or not your computer is at risk of becoming infected with viruses, worms, trojans, rootkits, dialers, spyware, and malware that are constantly evolving and becoming harder to detect and remove. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware can detect and remove malware that even the most well known anti-virus and anti-malware applications fail to detect. Well you can download it from here. It's a freeware tool but for real time protection you need to buy the license for this utility tool.

Teracopy

TeraCopy Portable is a portable freeware file-copying utility that tries to copy a file several times and if it fails, it skips the file and continues. TeraCopy also copies files faster than the built in Windows copy system by “dynamically adjusting buffers to reduce seek time”. Thus, making your backup process faster and more reliable. TeraCopy Portable enables you to copy and/or move files within Windows in a much faster way – an improvement you'll be especially grateful for when dealing with several gigabytes of data. TeraCopy has some other great features such as the ability to pause and resume transfers, shell intergration and a interactive file list that shows the failed file transfers so you can fix them later.

FireFound Firefox add-On

The FireFound add-on for the Firefox browser adds tracking and remote wipe features that can help with lost or stolen computers.

The free utility works in conjunction with a FireFound username and password, which you choose the first time you start Firefox with the add-on installed. It uses the Firefox Location-Aware Browsing feature, which in turn relies on the Google Location Services, to guess your computer's physical location. When the location changes, FireFound sends its new location to your account.
From then on, you can log in to your FireFound account from any computer and check the FireFound-enabled browser's location history. If your computer is lost or stolen, you can also activate an "emergency data protection" feature that will prompt anyone who next starts the FireFound-enabled browser for the username and password.
A failed FireFound login will clear out your private Firefox data, such as passwords, browing history and cookies. You have to first choose what will be deleted when you enable the emergency feature. Since the option will delete your data, you should of course be careful to only enable it if your computer is actually lost or stolen. Successfully entering the username and password will turn off the feature, but you (or whoever has your laptop) will only get one chance. Type carefully.
Also, although you can install FireFound on multiple browsers, it doesn't separate which location data comes from which browser. If you turn on the emergency data protection, the first browser that fires up (and only that browser) will get the password challenge.
Despite its limitations, FireFound is a nice tool that can be of serious benefit if you want to keep your private browsing information out of the hands of a laptop thief. The add-on won a grand prize in Mozilla's Extend Firefox 3.5 contest.

Changing scratch disk setting in Photoshop

A scratch disk is an area on your hard drive that Adobe Photoshop uses to store data. Photoshop uses a scratch disk because it performs memory intensive functions which sometimes exceed the amount of random access memory (RAM) on a computer. You can change the location of the scratch disk and add additional scratch disks in the Photoshop "Preferences" menu.
When your system does not have enough RAM to perform an operation, Photoshop uses a proprietary virtual memory technology, also called scratch disks. A scratch disk is any drive or drive partition with free memory. By default, Photoshop uses the hard drive on which the operating system is installed as the primary scratch disk.

Instructions
  1. Change the first scratch disk assignment by going to "Edit," then "Preferences", then "Plug Ins & Scratch Disks."
  2. Choose the first disk from the menu of available disks. You can choose up to four disks of any size that your system will support. In Photoshop, you can create up to 200 GB of space using scratch disks.
  3. Remember that scratch disks should be on a different drive than any large files you are editing, so you may need to additional external or internal hard drives, depending on your system. Additionally, do not choose a network drive, only a local drive.
  4. Click "OK," and then restart the program for your changes to be effective
Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to use the disk defragmenter on your scratch disk drives regularly.
  • Scratch disks should be on a local drive. That is, they should not be accessed over a network.

Samba installation & configuration

Installation:

save and exit
Add unix account by typing in terminal window "adduser smbuser"
Set the password for the same "passwd smbuser"
Now create same user account on samba by typing
"smbpasswd -a smbuse"
Restart the samba service by typing
"/etc/init.d/smb restart"
Now let us setup drive letter on our Windows so we can easily access these files.
Start -> run -> cmd
At the prompt type:
net use z: \\ip_of_your_samba_server\share /user: smbuser password_you_assigned
At this point you have successfully set up Samba under Linux and are now successfully connected to your share from your Windows machine.

How to change a WinXP password from CMD

If you've forgotten the password to your Windows user account, changing it through the Control Panel won't do you any good--it requires that you confirm the old password before it will let you change it. However, if you have access to the administrator account on your computer, you can change the password very easily through the command prompt.
  1. Log into an account with administrative privileges on your computer.
  2. Click on the "Start" button.
  3. Click "Run" and type "cmd" into the box. Press "Enter" to open the command prompt.
  4. Type the following into the command prompt "Net User" & hit "Enter" to continue.
  5. Look for the Windows account from the list whose password you want to be ressetted.
  6. Continue by typing the command in the command prompt
    "Net User Username *"
  7. Replace "Username" with your Windows account name. Press "Enter."
  8. Type your new password and press "Enter." Retype the password and press "Enter" again to complete the password change.

        Firefox and integrated windows authentication

Do you have an Intranet or a similar web site that requires the use of Integrated Windows Authentication? If so the default Firefox browser settings will always prompt you for a username and password first before accessing a site using Integrated Window Authentication.
Fortunately Firefox has the slick ability to easily modify it’s configuration to use Integrated Windows Authentication.

        How to configure Firefox

        1. Open Firefox
        2. In the address bar type: about:config
        3. Firefox3.x and later requires you to agree that you will proceed with caution.
        4. After the config page loads, in the filter box type: network.automatic
        5. Modify network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris by double clicking the row and enter http://www.replacewithyoursite.com

        Trick to hide files

        1. First archive your files which you want to hide into a jpg file.
        2. Select a particular jpg file in which you want to hide files.

        C:\>cd X --- (where 'X' may be any directory)
C:\X>COPY /B abc.jpg + xyz.7z pqr.jpg --- (where '.7z' is a '7zip' extension, also can be '.zip', '.rar', '.tar' etc depends on your compressing tool)

        Antivirus test

Have you ever wondered if your anti-virus software is really working? Would you like to see what happens when it detects a virus? Here's a safe way to test your computer's virus protection that doesn't require you to have a real virus.

First, open Notepad. Then copy and paste into it the text on the line below. (It should all be on one line.)

        X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Then select File, Save and select all Files for the file type, then save the file as eicar.com

Your anti-virus software may prevent you from saving the file as eicar.com, which is a sign that it is working effectively. If it doesn't raise an alert, try scanning the folder where you saved eicar.com. To see what happens if you try to run a file containing a virus, double-click eicar.com to open it.

        Explanation

The file eicar.com you have created is completely safe. It is not a virus. It is a standard test file developed by the European Institute for Computer Anti-virus Research (EICAR). All anti-virus products are programmed to detect this file as if it was a real virus. Therefore you can safely use it to test whether your anti-virus software works, without fear of infecting your computer.

If your anti-virus product should fail to prevent you from running the file, it will simply display the text "EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE" in a DOS box. No harm will have been done, but you should probably consider using a better anti-virus product, because if it had been a real virus, your computer would by now be infected!

        Software licensing

        Trial
All software products classified as trial share the time-limit characteristic. Basically, they can be used for a limited amount of time mostly referred to as evaluation period or trial period. It is specified in days or, more rarely, in program usage sessions. When the trial period ends, the user is asked to purchase a license in order to continue to use the software. The typical evaluation period is between 15 and 90 days, with exceptions for complex software packages such as operating systems or server software, which may go up to 180 or more days.

Most vendors offer the option of buying a license online via self-operated or outsourced order pages. Notable order processors are Regnow, Plimus and Element5. Payments can be made via credit card, Paypal accounts or, in some cases, checks.

Although most trial software products are only limited in terms of usage time, some of them may exhibit feature limitations. However, when these limitations affect critical functionality, the program is classified as demo.

Programs licensed under this model qualify only for the Softpedia "100% Clean" award.

        Demo
Demos are similar to programs classified as trial, but their main characteristic is represented by the functionality limitations. A typical example is a video conversion program which in demo mode only converts a small part of the input file. In some cases, complete features are disabled until a license is purchased.

Sometimes demos are not time-limited like trial software but due to the feature limitations, this is not a great advantage.

Programs licensed under this model qualify only for the Softpedia "100% Clean" award.

        Commercialware
This licensing model is very different from the traditional freeware or trial; commercialware programs are relatively rare nowadays. Simply put, such software cannot be obtained without being purchased first.

It is often delivered upon purchase in a boxed or disc (CD/DVD) format, along with the registration information. However, some vendors choose to provide a temporary download link for the full product via email instead. The program cannot be obtained in a trial or demo form via downloads or similar methods.

Extend trial period of Vista or later versions of Windows

To extend the trial period of Microsoft Windows Vista from 30 days to 120 days, all it takes is
